There was no catching Billy Twomey and Ardcolum Duke In the Clayton Hotel Speed Derby as the second day of international action got underway at Dublin Horse Show.
As he had done in the opening day speed class yesterday, Twomey was quick off the mark to take the lead with Ardcolum Duke, setting the pace at 84.70. This time around, his early target was to prove unmatchable.
That effort was soon followed by a fair attempt from Shane Sweetnam with Cyklon, who took over second spot in 85.84.
Rio-selected Greg Broderick took third for a time with Zuidam, whose 87.09 included four jumping faults.
A late effort from Dermott Lennon and Vampire looked promising but four faults pushed the pairing’s fast time out to 86.99, leaving the first two placings intact but earning third for Lennon ahead of Broderick.
