The Italian Equestrian Federation has today announced its completed list of horses and riders for the Olympics in Rio next month. Two Irish-bred horses have been named in the Italian eventing squad. Luca Roman will compete with 12 year-old bay gelding Castlewoods Jake, while Pietro Roman travels with 14 year-old grey gelding Barraduff.

The Italians have an eventing team and one individual place in both show jumping and dressage. Last week eventer Vitorria Panizzon and Borough Pennyz withdrew from contention due to injury to both horse and rider, resulting in a call up for Arianna Schivo and Quefira de l’Ormeau.

Italy are participating in the Nations Cup at the Dublin Horse Show this week, and while languishing at the foot of the Europe Division 1 nations cup league, they still have two events left to turn their season around as they are also competing at Hickstead the week after Dublin.
