With qualification for the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona now almost guaranteed, Ireland will nevertheless be making the most of the home crowd support when they line out for the famous Aga Khan Trophy competition in Dublin’s RDS main arena on Friday, August 9th.

Chef d’Equipe Rodrigo Pessoa has chosen a team of four who are now all household names in Ireland, and they will line out as follows:

Cian O’Connor – PSG Final
Darragh Kenny – Important De Muze
Paul O’Shea – Skara Glen’s Machu Picchu
Shane Sweetnam – Chaqui Z

Following their second place finish at Hickstead Nations Cup last week, Ireland is now in a healthy position within the qualifying group for October’s Nations Cup final in Barcelona, which carries the possibility of an Olympic team place.

Pessoa, who must also keep a sharp eye on the fast-approaching European Jumping Championships (which also carry the chance of a Tokyo ticket), is no doubt juggling horse and rider combinations to ensure that Ireland punches at its full team weight in the weeks and months ahead.

After his announcement today he said: “”The team are really looking forward to the Aga Khan in Dublin. It is always a very important date on the calendar. Last year we came a close second and this year we will be trying to go one better.”
