Irish riders claimed the top two places in Friday’s 1.45m AltaGas Cup at the Spruce Meadows ‘Continental’ meeting in Calgary, Canada.

Dermott Lennon took a decisive lead in the jump-off when getting MJM Pursuit home clear in 35.11 seconds and it was Darragh Kenny who came closest to matching his effort when partnering Scarlett du Sart Z to a second clear in 35.61.

Third-placed Nikolaj Hein Ruus of Denmark was over a second further back on Chili Pepper SM.

Three other Irish riders had left all the obstacles intact in the opening round but a time fault each halted the progress of Jordan Coyle with Picador, Jonathan Corrigan on Audi’s Dimple and Daniel Coyle with Legacy.

Coyle (pictured below) did have reason to celebrate as he claimed the Friends Of The Meadows Cup (Young Horse) two-phase event on seven year-old Amalia , setting a time of 24.82 that was best of the fifty-five horse field.
