International jumping came to a nail-biting finish at Mullingar CSI2* with Clem McMahon taking the honours in the final TRM Horseware New Heights Champions Series.
Riding Charlotte Gibson’s Aldaluck he lodged the winning round of clear in 42.62 seconds and took home with him the winner’s share of €24,600 prize fund on offer.
Bred by R.P Kelly, Aldaluck is a nine-year-old gelding by Aldato and out of My Mystic River.
A total of 54 riders went to post and with riders well up to the task,14 combinations booked their place in the jump-off. Of the 14 that went against the clock seven of those delivered double clears.
Taking the runner-up place was young rider Michael Pender and Casanova Van Overis Z who was fractions behind in 43.86.
Stacy Babes and Camillo VDL put in a faultless round in 44.53 for third place.
Following a good show, Francis Connors returned to pick up another prize when he partnered Erne Lady Goldilocks to a clear in 45.71 for eventual fourth, ahead of Vincent Byrne and Hannibal V Overis Z who clocked 46.36 seconds. Cormac Rafferty and Kmr Benzini completed the top six line-up when he delivered a clear in 46.97 seconds.
