After a five-way jump-off, Ireland’s Daniel Coyle claimed second place in last night’s four-star $216,000 Wanderers Club Grand Prix as the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida drew towards its conclusion.
Riding Cita, the Irish rider went in chase of the lead time set by Chilean Samuel Parot on Atlantis and got home intact but three-quarters of a second slower.
It was good enough for second place, as the other three jump-off qualifiers came home with four faults.
“I always thought she was going to be a a great 1m50 horse, but I think she is going to be more now”, said Coyle, who took over the ride on the 11 year-old from Conor Swail last year. “I think the future will be bright for her. I am disappointed that I did not beat Samuel, but this is still a great result.”
American Margie Engle capped a good week for her and Royce by taking third place.
