Irish riders have shown steady progress inside the top fifty in the latest Longines FEI World Rankings which cover the period up to Dec 31st and also include the four-star Liverpool International Horse show which finished on January 2nd.

Bertram Allen moves back into the top twenty after the briefest of absences last month. Allen is now ranked 18th, having benefited from 130 points for last month’s runner-up placing at the five-star Grand Prix in Paris with Hector van d’Abdijhoeve.

Next best of the Irish is Denis Lynch who retains the number 27 position, while Darragh Kenny moves up two places to 33rd.

Also moving up is Cian O’Connor who climbs four notches to a share of 34th after good results with Be Gentle and Good Luck in Geneva.

Conor Swail holds onto the number 36 spot, while the biggest Irish move in positional terms inside the top 50 is by Billy Twomey, who has been elevated to 38th from 44th last month.

Twomey’s Grand Prix win in Liverpool on Monday with Diaghilev netted him 80 points, and another win at the Merseyside venue with Ardcolum Duke added a further 50 to the tally which had been boosted in December with the five-star World Cup Grand Prix win in La Coruna, also with Diaghilev.

Shane Sweetnam holds onto the number 41 position, and Richie Moloney ranks 48th, up two places from 50th.

Daniel Coyle improves from 84th to 83rd, while Anthony Condon enters the top 100 at number 97, up from 108th.

Germany’s Daniel Deusser takes over top spot in the rankings from compatriot Christian Ahlmann, with American Kent Farrington in third.
