Shane Sweetnam and Main Road took today’s Southwest Equestrian Center $10,000 Open Jumper 1m45 event as the 4* Hampton Classic Horse Show continued at Bridgehampton, New York, with Irish riders in the frame in all four classes.
Sweetnam was faster than American Katie Cox (Hocus Pocus Vh Hof Ter Heide) by almost a second in the jump-off, with another American Beezie Madden over two seconds behind on Coach. “He’s a quick horse so I wanted to try to be faster than Beezie and see where that ended up,” said Sweetnam. “He jumped very well and luckily I won.”
Ireland’s Lorcan Gallagher also made the jump-off with Diktator Van De Boslandhoeve and took fourth place. Sweetnam claimed fifth as well, with Cantero Da Lagoa on whom he had the second-fastest jump-off time but picked up four faults on route.
Earlier Richie Moloney was runner-up in the Hollow Creek Farm $10,000 Open Jumper 1m40 on Elouise De Muse behind American Georgina Bloomberg (South Street), with Cormac Hanley taking fourth on Twan, while Moloney went on to claim third in the Shamrock Ventures $10,000 Open Jumper 1m40.
