Two brilliant rounds by Denis Lynch netted him second place in today’s feature class at the Longines Global Champions Tour meeting in Valkenswaard, Netherlands.
Lynch, partnering All Star 5, shot to the top late on in a star-studded 20-way jump-off, but Germany’s Daniel Deusser followed up by scorching home almost a second quicker on Happiness van T Paradijs to deny the Irish rider victory.
Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat claimed third with Albfuehren’s Happiness in a time just over half a second slower than Lynch.
All three Irish riders in the top class field of 49 qualified for the decider, but both Bertram Allen (Hector van d’Abdijhoeve) and Conor Swail (Martha Louise) had four faults second time out.
The Valkenswaard meeting is only the second show at which Deusser has competed with the 9 year-old mare. “She did a really good job today,” said the German rider. Mike Dunne
